We have lots of lost property at reception and there is also a box in the PE Department.  If your child is missing any item, please encourage them to come to reception before next Friday lunchtime.  Any item not claimed by this time will be given to a local charity.

KS5 Physics

IN KS5 PHYSICS, WE STUDY THE FOLLOWING

  • Learning about the atom in greater detail
  • Finding out about Particle Physics. We will meet Baryons, Hadrons, Mesons, Leptons
  • Wave properties. Building on the GCSE knowledge to study diffraction and interference phenomena
  • Developing our knowledge of Mechanics to include Projectile Motion
  • Properties of Materials, Young Modulus
  • Electricity, including resistivity, emf and internal resistance
  • Developing skills of application and analysis, also acquiring advanced investigative and practical skills
  • Learning about Periodic motion which is generally known as Simple Harmonic Motion, which includes work on damping and resonance with reference to real world examples and problems
  • Finding out more about Thermal Physics and how it links to the Kinetic Theory of Gases
  • Learning about Electric and Gravitational Fields, their similarities and differences
  • Studying the exponential nature of Capacitor discharge and Radioactive Decay
  • Magnetic field phenomena such as Induction and Eddy Currents are studied in great depth
  • Turning Points in Physics examines some of the key moments in modern Physics
  • Continuing to develop skills of application and analysis, we will acquire more advanced investigative and practical skills

A LEVEL ASSESSMENT

  • Learning will be continuously assessed and monitored through home learning and exam-style tests
  • Feedback will be provided from these to enable students to develop their understanding and improve their exam technique
  • Regular self and peer assessment will also take place to enhance their learning

  • Three external Papers are sat at the end of Year 13:
    • Paper 1 – Y12 topics
    • Paper 2 – Y13 topics
    • Paper 3 – Practical skills are assessed in a written Paper
