BTEC Sport

The Pearson BTEC Level 1 /Level 2 First Award in Sport qualification aims to develop an understanding of the relevant practical skills and associated knowledge needed to work in the sport and leisure industry. It will give students a broad introduction to the sector, as well as developing useful personal skills to enhance individual confidence and to help prepare for successful entry into employment. Students are not directly assessed on their practical ability.


BTEC Sport builds upon the skills developed at Key Stage 3. The BTEC Sport course is practical and work-related. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic work situations, activities and demands.

OverviewThe course will offer an excellent opportunity to gain an understanding of real work-related scenarios allowing you to develop the skills needed within these situations. If you are interested in pursuing a career in sport and do not want to be assessed directly by your ability to perform sport then this is the course for you.
LimitationsYou should have an interest in many aspects of sport including participating in it.

This course is open to all students, however an interest in sport is essential and students who are regular attendees to extra-curricular practices are well suited.

AssessmentOne unit is assessed via an online exam. All other units are assignment based and internally assessed. So for three units assessment is through a portfolio, which will include a wide range of learning outcomes involving the preparation of reports, demonstrations, powerpoint presentations, group work and individual interviews.
You need the ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as being able to meet deadlines and produce quality coursework on a regular basis.
